Agilyx moves to buy 44% of GreenDot for €52M, securing feedstock and linking waste recovery with high-end plastics recycling.

Agilyx has agreed to acquire a 44 per cent shareholding in GreenDot Global, operator of Germany's long-standing Der Grüne Punkt packaging recovery system, in a €52mn deal aimed at securing feedstock for advanced recycling.
The transaction, announced in July and expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, values GreenDot at €197mn. Consideration will be split between cash and newly issued Agilyx shares, with the equity portion subject to resale restrictions until early 2026.
Green Dot manages more than Imn tonnes of packaging waste annually across 29 countries, including 400,000 tonnes of plastic. For Agilyx, which uses chemical processes to transform mixed plastics into high-quality raw materials, the partnership provides a reliable input stream. "This partnership gives us the scale and reliability needed to meet Europe's fast-rising demand for recycled content," an Agilyx spokesperson said.
The deal comes as EU rules tighten requirements for recycled content in consumer goods, particularly food packaging where higher standards apply. Direct influence over collection and sorting is expected to help Agilyx reduce costs and improve quality.
Analysts say the move reflects a broader shift as recyclers seek protection from volatile feedstock markets. "Feedstock security is becoming the number one strategic priority in advanced recycling," said one European recycling analyst.
The integration will not be without challenges. Green Dot's role as a compliance-focused recovery system may not align easily with Agilyx's growth ambitions, and competition regulators are likely to examine the impact of the tie-up on the sector.
Agilyx argues that linking recovery and recycling under one structure could set a model for scaling circular plastics systems across Europe. If successful, the approach would create a direct route from curbside collection to high-specification recycled products, reinforcing Europe's efforts to build a more sustainable plastics economy.
